Aspasia Draga, M.D.

Ophthalmologist Bayside | Dr. Aspasia Draga, M.D.Dr. Aspasia Draga is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist who is highly experienced in cataract surgery and comprehensive Ophthalmology, including the treatment of glaucoma and external eye diseases. Dr. Draga graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Barnard College, Columbia University. She received her Medical Degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. Dr. Draga did her internship in the Medicine Department at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. She completed her Ophthalmology residency in at Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital (MEETH) in New York. She completed a Corneal and Anterior Segment Surgery Fellowship and then spent a year studying glaucoma surgery, while also working as a resident instructor at MEETH. Dr. Draga has co-authored several journal articles and has been named in “Best Doctors” by New York Magazine. Dr. Draga is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the New York State Ophthalmological Society, and the New York Society for Clinical Ophthalmology. She is currently a clinical Ophthalmology attending at LIJ, New York Hospital of Queens, and Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital. She has been appointed Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the School of Medicine at Hoftsra University.

Dr. Aspasia Draga established Draga Eye Care in 1989. She has over 26 years of experience and has performed thousands of cataract and glaucoma laser and surgery operations. She believes Draga Eye Care is a unique practice that is composed of skilled physicians and staff dedicated to providing quality comprehensive eye care and surgery.


Irene E. Draga, M.D.

Draga is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist who is experienced in comprehensive Ophthalmology and specializes in cataract surgery and medical retina. Dr. Draga graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Barnard College, Columbia University. She then received her Medical Degree from Mount Sinai Medical School in N.Y. She did a medical internship at Cabrini Medical Center. She completed her Ophthalmology residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center (LIJ). Dr. Draga then completed a fellowship in medical retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, England. Dr. Draga served as resident instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology at LIJ and has won the “Teacher of the Year” Award. Dr. Draga is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the New York State Ophthalmological Society, and the New York Society for Clinical Ophthalmology. She is a clinical Ophthalmology attending at LIJ, New York Hospital Queens, and Manhattan, Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital.

Dr. Irene Draga is a caring and skilled ophthalmologist with more than 23 years of experience. She is dedicated to providing her patients with the highest quality of care.


Carrie B. Zaslow, M.D.

Dr. Carrie Zaslow is a comprehensive ophthalmologist, fellowship trained in cornea and external disease. She was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, but has lived in New York for nearly a decade. After graduating high school as valedictorian she went on to complete her undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania. She received a B.A. in International Relations and French Studies and was inducted into the Mortar Board Senior Honor Society in recognition of her campus leadership. She then went on to complete the post-baccalaureate premedical education program at Columbia University. Due to her high achievement at Columbia, she was admitted into the linkage program at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. Subsequently, she completed at transitional intern year at Sound Shore Medical Center of New York Medical College. Next, she completed her ophthalmology residency at North Shore – LIJ where she served as chief resident during her final year. She then went on to complete a fellowship in cornea and external disease at Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital of the North Shore – LIJ health system.

Dr. Zaslow has a passion for helping the underserved and has participated in ophthalmology volunteer endeavors in Ghana and Haiti. She is active in teaching residents at Queens Hospital Center. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking and tennis.


Christina Giannikas Starcic, M.D.

After graduating Townsend Harris High School in Queens, she attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, where she graduated with Honors in Human Biology and Neuroscience. She spent two years teaching Human Biology at Stanford University following her graduation. She then received her Medical Degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. She completed both an Internship in Internal Medicine and Residency in Ophthalmology at the North Shore – LIJ Health System, where she also served as Chief Resident.

She was then chosen to complete a prestigious fellowship at the Harkness Eye Institute of the Columbia University Medical Center in New York. At Columbia, she received extensive medical and surgical training in Cornea, External Disease (including Dry Eye and Infectious Conditions), Corneal Transplantation (including PK, DSAEK, and DMEK), and Refractive Surgery (including LASIK and PRK). During her training, she provided Laser Vision Correction Surgery to military personnel and military families at the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. She is currently one of the few surgeons in the New York area to offer the newest form of Corneal Transplantation, DMEK.

Dr. Giannikas Starcic has received many honors and awards throughout her medical training, has presented her research at international meetings, and has authored peer-reviewed journal articles. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Cornea Society.

She has done international volunteer work in Belize and has worked in underserved communities in New York. She is fluent in Greek and Spanish, and in her spare time, likes to travel (especially to Greece and Croatia) and to spend time with her family. She is happy to return to her native Queens and to have the opportunity to offer her services to the community.
